Clinical Exercise Physiology Team
Nick is an experienced senior Exercise Physiologist with ESSA and has a passion for rehabilitation and functional conditioning. Nick specialises in chronic injury management, treating metabolic conditions as well as designing holistic rehabilitative exercise programs to address full body movement dysfunctions and asymmetries. With a vast experience working within both private practice and hospital environments, Nick has built extensive experience in the prevention and management of conditions including but not limited to cardiovascular disease, obesity, Parkinson’s, stroke, osteoporosis, diabetes, arthritis and surgical interventions.
Playing soccer at an elite level has enabled Nick to implement his experience in the management and programming of strength and conditioning programs for his high level athletic clients. The incorporation of rehabilitation principles into his strengthening programs enables Nick to ensure his athletes stay injury free whilst performing at their maximum physical potential.
Marco Ferrara is an experienced Judoka (3rd Dan), physical education teacher and fitness specialist. He holds multiple university masters degrees in sports science, including a masters in elite sport training with an extensive experience as a Judo Coach, fully certified from FIJLKAM (Italian Federation for Judo Wrestling Karate and Martial Arts) and recognized also by NCAS and AJF. He brings to the Clinic experience as a strength & conditioning coach with Italian National Team athletes. His masters level study in elite sports training is complemented by elite coaching experience with both European national teams and individual Olympic champions.
Stefanie Fernandez BExSc
Stefanie is an elite level track cyclist and a NSW Institute of Sport athlete with over a decade of experience in the Fitness Industry, predominantly in the Strength & Conditioning field. As well as experience working as an exercise physiologist, she has a degree in Human Movement and Exercise Science and is currently undertaking postgraduate study in Strength & Conditioning. She has worked with a variety of clients in that time, from general population clients looking to increase their fitness, to athletes seeking performance gains. She employs a wide range of techniques in her training sessions, and has played an integral role in some dramatic changes with her clients.
When not lecturing a variety of sport science courses, including strength and conditioning units at university, Strength and Conditioning specialist Dean has been working hard with our athletes, improving explosive power and performance as well as running specialist technical workshops on olympic weight lifting to much success in the clinic. Dean has trained world class international athletes across a range of different sports as well as working with professional sports teams.
Tom Walsh MA, CSCS
International strength and conditioning specialist Tom Walsh works with a number of professional teams around the globe, particularly in football codes and martial arts. When in Australia he assists with programming exercises for our athletes, as well as running specialist conditioning workshops in the clinic.
Jessica began her massage career studying in the UK, becoming certified as a massage therapist, as well as completing Degrees in Sport Science and a Masters in Physiology. After moving back to Australia, Jessica furthered her qualifications by completing a diploma of massage, gathering further knowledge and skills which enabled her to also to become qualified for benefits such as health fund rebates under the Australian framework. She has gained experience working with professional and amateur sports teams, as well as the general population. Jessica specialises in remedial and sports massage, as well as myofascial release. Currently she is also studying a masters in physiotherapy at Macquarie University, Jessica is a great asset to our team and keen to build her client base at Fitness Clinic Five Dock.
Joe Walsh Msci Phys
Joe is a highly experienced exercise scientist. A principle researcher in a number of global research teams, he has conducted research in many areas of sport and exercise, with findings presented at major international conferences in Europe, Asia, North America and Australasia. Joe has much experience working with athletes and teams across a range of sports and events both within Australia and internationally. Currently Joe is involved with a number of research studies being conducted at Australian and US universities, including Charles Darwin University and the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine at Bond University here in Australia.
Associate Professor Mike Climstein PhD, FASMF, FACSM, FAAESS, AEP
Dr. Mike is one of Australia’s leadig exercise physiologists and is currently also involved in a number of research projects being conducted in association with Sydney University.
