Cancer can inspire people to live amazing lives once they have beaten it
This man is inspiring, cancer can inspire a person to live an amazing life after they have beaten it
Fitness Clinic Client Kevin Brown has walked the Kokoda trail, climbed Everest and beaten cancer.
“It’s not an ego thing it’s all about achieving and if you give up at my stage of life you don’t want to do it a second time.”
Mr Brown trained for two years for the Everest climb, mostly at Fitness Clinic in Five Dock and running up and down the stairs at the Iron Cove Bridge with a weighted backpack, even after the leg break delayed his trip by a year.
He said twelve people died in different groups on the mountain at the time he was climbing it – seven from a landslide, four from altitude sickness and one from a heart attack – and warned any potential mountain-climbers to be wary of the risks involved.
“People don’t always understand the gravity of it and what it’s all about,” he said. “You can never have enough training or be overtrained for something like this but unfortunately too many, particularly younger people, do a bit of research on a computer and go in underprepared.”
Mr Brown said he is now looking to new challenges including trekking Mont Blanc in the Italian and French Alps and cycling through the Alps and around the Matterhorn in Switzerland.
