The term “Exercise Physiologist” describes university trained professionals from within the field of exercise science who have specialised into either health and fitness or exercise rehabilitation streams.
Our Exercise Physiologists use fundamental principles of exercise physiology to minimize the risk of chronic diseases associated with physical inactivity and to treat those already afflicted. The scope of practice ranges from apparently healthy individuals with no known medical problems to patients with documented cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic, rheumatoid, orthopedic, and/or neuromuscular diseases and conditions. We also specialise in Enhanced Primary Care Plans and Diabetes Programs induced by Medicare Australia, Workers Compensation Programs approved by WorkCover, Third Party (CTP) and Private Health environments.
The Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) program was introduced to provide more preventive care for older Australians and improve coordination of care for people with chronic conditions and complex care needs.
Patients who have a chronic condition and complex care needs that are being managed by their General Practitioner (GP) under an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan may be eligible. A chronic medical condition is one that has been (or is likely to be) present for six months or longer. It includes conditions such as asthma, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, musculoskeletal conditions and stroke.
Eligible patients that are referred by their GP are allowed under EPC the services of an Exercise Physiologist 5 times within a calendar year and will receive a rebate of $53.80 per session through Medicare. Rebates are also available through selected private health insurers.
Note: GPs are encouraged to refer patients for individual Exercise Physiology services under items 10950 to 10970; to Fitness Clinic Exercise Physiology Services.
Upon attending the clinic, all patients receive an exercise prescription that is particularly tailored to suit their individual needs in management of their health conditions. The program is introduced with practical instruction and preference to be performed on daily basis from the patients accessible resources. The main emphasis of the program is that enables patients to take responsibility for maintaining appropriate physical activity habits in the long term which as a result will enhance their management of health conditions and everyday life.
All Fitness Clinic Exercise Physiologists conducting services in this field are approved by Medicare Australia to deliver treatment services.
Our Exercise Physiology services offered are mainly carried out in our Head Centre but are also offered in community (including home visits), nursing homes, and senior citizen centers.
